Broken key extraction involves inserting specially shaped tools into the keyhole in an attempt to grab hold of the broken part of the key and pull it out. The success rate of broken key removal depends on whether or not there are any small pieces sticking out that can be grabbed, how deeply the key has broken in the lock, and how dirty or rusty the inside of the lock is. Even if all these factors work in favor, however, there is no guarantee that you will not have to change your entire lock.
